STRUCTURAL • CORRECTION • HEALTH

Dr. Anthony S. C. Lai, DC

Chief Consultant and Founder

Chronic back pain is no stranger to our modern society, especially here in Hong Kong. As electronic devices influence our daily lifestyle and postural habits, it is our spinal health that suffers.

We have noticed that there is an abundance of back relief options available on the market; however, they usually only provide temporary symptom relief rather than correcting the root problem. Dr. Lai understands the frustration of being stuck in the pain cycle and eventually worsening with time. We firmly believe that in order to truly correct the root cause, we must be thorough in diagnosis.

At Respine Hong Kong, Dr. Lai practices the Gonstead Methodology protocol to evaluate our patients. Our goal is to be as specific as possible when narrowing down to the problem causing spinal segment, thus we can target the area in treatment.

With proper diagnostic approach and patient-focused case management, we are confident in helping our patients return to a full and health life.

COMMON SPINAL PROBLEMS IN HONG KONG

ANTERIOR HEAD CARRIAGE

Modern society has transitioned and adapted to an electronic-orientated lifestyle. Our cellphone and computer use have increased exponentially in the past 10 years. In Hong Kong, we are surrounded by people on their phones or electronic devices with anterior head carriage on a daily basis. Sometimes, the forward posture of anterior head carriage is also referred to as “tech-neck” or “text-neck”.

SCIATICA

Sciatica is a condition where the sciatic nerve is irritated or inflamed causing nerve pain in the patient. The hallmark characteristics of sciatica is radiating or shooting sharp nerve pain down the entire leg. The sciatic nerve is the largest branch of the sacral plexus and is the largest nerve in the body.

SCOLIOSIS

Scoliosis is a condition characterized by lateral curvatures of the spine that results in spiral or rotational deformities. The curvatures are usually “C” or “S” shaped over three dimensions and the thoracic spine usually compensates by the reposition of the rib cage. Scoliosis not only affects the aesthetics of the patient but potentially disrupts cardiovascular and respiratory function.
